Hi Mell.

>This is similar to why I have also been playing with view's - just preparing for a future need of using SQL Server, and it has been a struggle on some of these small tables because I didn't want to use a parameterized view.

Tell me about struggle !!! I think it's been an enourmous change of paradigm to me. I still don't feel confortable with the idea of not telling the user that there's someone else already editing the record and asking him to wait. I saw a message in another thread saying that this is usually something rare to happen. But I see it all the time. Usually in applications that have a form where a proposal for a specific job is created, and different people need to work with and provide information in order to get to a final decision. Gary helped a lot with the proper way to do it nowadays, and I need sometime to digest this and find the best way to acomplish what is needed.

Then, switch to views as needed by changing the forms cDataEnvironment property to ="cdeViewOneNow" from ="cdeTableOneNow". Also, have appropiate if/endif code to inform the Form to call a frmRequeryDialogCustom Form as needed when using a parameterized view. It looks like all of this could be done with a global setting, so that just one property would need to be changed in the global object.

Perhaps Gary will chim in here with some thoughts. I do now it would be easier for me to create both a CDE for tables and views now as the Forms are fresh on my mind, rather than revisiting them a year down the road.

This looks like a great idea ! But I'm trying to stick to the Client/Server format exclusively. I'm sure that at this point I'd be more productive if still used native Fox dbc. This definetely would be closer to what I'm used to do. But I've got a feeling that it's time for big changes, so let's dive head first. Talked to Dave and he said there's a Client/Server Tutorial on its way soon. I'm looking forward to it. Gary could write a book or something full of examples. I would be his first customer !!!

Well, it's been a great pleasure to be able to share some thoughts with you guys, hope I had found this place before.

Valeu.
Ivan
