Nope, the ads have nothing to do with it. (I don't even know which companies are advertising these days.) The column was more a case of me working out in writing what I'm feeling as I go through this exercise, and the bottom line is I know that the framework is worth the learning pain.
The "programming with gloves on" line jumped into my head one day as I was struggling to make something work, and started me thinking about the whole subject.
