I believe it is an optional component before Windows 2000. George Tasker and Ed Rauh wrote articles about it (including how to determine if is is installed or not) which can be found at
www.vfug.org I would read those articles. I'm sorry I'm not more knowlegeable about it, but George and Ed are the folks to get more information on the windows script host!
