The good side is that Apple is in a bi-directional relationship with Darwin, the OpenSource project from which the Mac OS X platform was developed. The bad side is that Darwin is a BSD derivative, and as such it exposes the work of contributors to exploitation and theft... especially if their contributions are added to or becomes a propriatary work, something the BSD license doesn't forbid. Considering all the MS FUD about the GPL being 'anti-democratic' and 'anti-IP' it makes their position totally clear when they use BSD software without returning squat to the BSD community or any other, but treats everyone like they are pirates and thieves.

I am not sure a Mac is preferable to a WinXX right now, considering Steven Job's repuatation. IMO, he would be another Gates in an instant, if he could. I also do not like having patches and update releases based on a company bottom line, etc...
