You'll need some third party tools if you don't want to rely on somthing installed on the local machine.

West Wind Internet Protcols or West Wind Client Tools are easy to use and include HTTP, FTP and TCP/IP access along with SMTP features in VFP class format (selfish plug - http://www.west-wind.com/wwClientTools.asp). There are also several ActiveX controls available from Mabry (www.Mabry.com)
