Hi Jon,

>I was curious if anyone here has had experiences (be they good or bad) in the scenario described above. Are we looking for headaches?

Why not just bail on the VFP data engine and use SQL Server exclusively?

Before you get ready to reply that not all your clients are big enough and can't afford to use SQL Server, read on. Why not just have a single code base and give away the SQL Server data engine for free to the clients who aren't big enough and can't afford a Standard license of SQL Server? Sounds good to me.

WHAT??? Give away SQL Server for free?? You can't do that! You must be on crack or something Duffy!

Yes you can. It's called SQL Server Desktop Engine Edition or MSDE and you can distribute it for FREE to your clients just like you distribute the VFP data engine for free.

We have found that the benefits of using SQL Server for all development projects far exceed any benefits (not to mention the headaches) you MIGHT gain from using VFP AND SQL Server data.

I'll elaborate on this if you're interested.

My advice... bail on the DBFs. They blow... < s > Move toward using a "real" database (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, MySQL, etc). BTW, yes I know I'm going to get pummeled for that remark! < g >
