Finally got around to trying to update a memo field. Not good. I get the dreaded:

OLE IDispatch exception code 0 from Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server:
 The text, ntext, and image data types cannot be compared or sorted, 
except when using IS NULL or LIKE operator...

So now the real fun begins.
