>Look at the Dimension 2300 for $699. It is a P4. A few weeks ago you could get a Dimensio 4500S for $699 and a 50.00 rebate (I bought one for my mom) but that deal seems to be over already.

http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/offers/specials_3x_special36.htmThat machine has Win XP Home and only 128MB of RAM. When I hit customize, I bump memory up to 256MB SDRAM [add $40], change the operating system to Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional¹² [add $99] and remove the 15" monitor [subtract $80]. Now it is $758.00 which still sounds good. I have been told that the Dimension won't have as good a motherboard as the Optiplex. I'm not sure what difference that makes. Many Optiplexes don't have many expansion slots. The Optiplexes use DDR memory instead of SDRAM.
Many of the refurbished OptiPlexes in my price range have plenty of RAM but lack a modem and have on-board sound and video, which I'm told isn't so good for video. I suppose that if I want something in particular, I should just keep checking until they have a refurbished system that has what I need and not what I don't.
