I can tell you we have had the exact same problem and could not find a solution other than to dump CR and create reports in HTML. If you look in Google there are many people with this issues. Crystal Reports really stinks big time developing with it. Its very flaky and constantly battling its quirks (not to mention the rude people at Crystal Decisions). Many a time it has trashed our rpt files. Unfortunately there is no other report writer out there. I feel your pain. Sorry I can't be of help and ranted instead.
