As any application might do Foxpro creates temporary files as it sees fit to speed up things. You can specify where they're created via tools\options\file locations or using tmpfiles setting in config.fpw.
Tables need not be reindexed often. If you're getting frequent corruptions then you should check your setup and hardware as well.
