There is also the other side of this... as recently as five years ago, as regards ulcers.
An Australian doctor was ridiculed by the "experts" around the world for proposing, backed by observation/testing/cure, that it is a bacteria that is responsible for a lagre portion of ulcer occurrances. It took some time before he was vindicated.
