The MARK clause is ignored and the default mark character is used if the menu containing the menu item is integrated into the Visual FoxPro system menu. Also, the MARK clause is ignored if FoxFont isn't the font for the main Visual FoxPro window or the user-defined window in which the menu containing the menu item is placed.

If you want something different than check mark in the system menu, in VFP7 you can also use image for menu item. Make an image that looks very similar to the mark you wat, then specify that image for menu item. In run-time, you have to re-build popup containing these menu items when you change mark, because no way to change image on the fly in existing menu.
