The truly odd thing about this "policy" is that there is nary a peep about it on CNN or the U.S. network news shows and no statements by any members of the U.S. Congress! The "policy" was enunciated and there has been no discussion since (at least that I have seen on TV or by elected officials).
I guess that the Republicans feel that they did better (electorally) under the cold war and so now are creating a replacement for it.
