>I heard that if using MS Access it reaches more then 24,000 records that it becomes less efficient or that databse will run slower. Is this true?

Derek;

Access may be the perfect solution for some but not all. My experience with Access goes back to the first release. It was originally marketed as a “tool for managers to create reports and understand their business”, and some developers have taken it to the forefront as a development tool to run corporate America.

I have seen Access work well with data sets of about 10,000 to 20,000 records. One application became very slow with 26,000 records. A developer I talked to said he had over a million records in his data set and it was fast.

I know one Access developer that charges $150 and hour and he has clients waiting for his assistance. Where I work we had many Access developers (consultants) create applications which broke and are being replaced. Personally, I do not like to see anything critical being done in Access. That is a matter of choice based upon my experience.

Before using any development tool it is best to understand user requirements and select the correct tool.

Tom
