set century on/off controls whether to display 2 or 4 digits. But whatever your setting for display is, it is always stored as 4 digits. Besides 'set century on/off' also check set century to xx rollover yy.

VFP is the best one naturally I would say as it's my best :) However after seeing VFP8 launched I'd say VFP is the BEST !

Thousands or records is nothing to VFP. It could effectively hold millions and millions records. 'Not a table' problem generally doesn't root from VFP itself but from external sources like network. And honestly it's a very easy fix situation to fix.
