I can only speak from my own personal experience, training, and knowledge on the security issues. Having been the C2 Information Assurance Security Manager (talk about your 24/hr a day job!) for the govt, there is no comparison in security between SQL and VFP. SQL, while not the most secure nor ideal security-wise, still wins hands down over VFP tables. That's just the way it is. However, if security is the primary issue (as it is with many corporations and expecially the govt), as a developer, I would still prefer VFP as a front-end to SQL on the backend over VB or VB.NET until I see proof otherwise. For smaller businesses where security is not the primary issue, I still go with a VFP front end and VFP tables. However, when possible, I'd use MSDE for the backend where the number of users is small. It is easier to port the app to SQL later when the user-base grows and when/if security and data integrity are real issues and the business can afford to invest in a more secure backend.
