Hmm... I think there is something about putting new alcohol in old bottles. Must be tradition then...
and for the record, I knew this .. just an interesting question. I have a whole list of these:
- If we have notary publics, why don't we have notary privates? If there is no such thing as a notary private, why don't we just call them notaries?
- Near most any hospital in the US you'll find a building labeled "Professional Plaza". Why is it you never see an "Amateur Plaza"?
- On the door to many post offices in the US, is the following "No dogs allowed except seeing eye dogs". Who is that written for?
And then the better known ones like:
- Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway
- Why is it when you send something on a ship is it cargo, but when you send it on a truck it's a shipment?
The list goes on.
