My experience is that, at that level of hotel, the places that are designed for business travelers (Marriott Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn, etc.) are better than the traditional places. For example, given a choice between a Holiday Inn and a Holiday Inn Express and no other info, I'd always choose the latter.

If you're a AAA member, get the tour book for the area and check the ratings.
