Antonio,
>Can anyone please give a clue: does bi-weekly mean twice a week or twice a month?
In the publishing business, biweekly means once every two weeks, just as bimonthly (like CoDe Magazine) means once every two months. When I tell people that we are bimonthly, I also always add (6 issues per year) just in case they don't understand what the word means.
In these cases, "bi" means "at an interval of two" (as above and as in bicentennial - once every two centuries). However, in common usage, it has morphed into meaning "twice during", when used in biweekly, resulting in common usage of biweekly as "twice per week" (except in the publishing business).
Check out this information for "bi-" in
www.dictionary.com:2.a. Occurring at intervals of two: bicentennial.
2.b.Usage Problem. Occurring twice during: biweekly. Usage Note: Bimonthly and biweekly mean “once every two months” and “once every two weeks.” For “twice a month” and “twice a week,” the words semimonthly and semiweekly should be used. Since there is a great deal of confusion over the distinction, a writer is well advised to substitute expressions like every two months or twice a month where possible. However, each noun form has only one sense in the publishing world. Thus, a bimonthly is published every two months, and a biweekly every two weeks.
All of this information probably does not solve your problem, but it is interesting. :-)
