sometimes authentication can be passed
in the URL like: http://username:password@www.myserver.com

or is in hidden parameters which get send back from a
HTML-form or read from a cookie.

Just use IE and watch the URL's, it might give you
a clue. But for screen-scraping purposes I found
it easier to use WebBrowser and either read the URL
from there or work the DOM. Performance ist not that bad,
if you have a decent machine -
you can always set pictures of.
