Wow :(

BTW, there is yet another version of Frx2Word. Vladimir Zhuravlev with Dmitry Petrov explored completely different idea to achive output of Report into Word document. Right now Vladimir & I are working on Hussars team Desktop application project to make it available for Download. I translated comments for SCX2Word (not all and made just a quick translation, because there are lots of code, which I don't yet fully understand). Scx2Word output form into Word. Frx2Word output report to Word. I didn't translate comments there, because there are lots of them and I was tired... Anyway, we hope to finish preparation in few more days and then you and others can take this project and borrow some nice features it has and some ideas. It also has a very neat form's design, which is quite appealing in my opinion.

The Frx2Word idea is described in Vladimir's article, which I hope will be printed in November issue of UT Magazine (we were unable to make October's deadline)
>I downloaded the evaluation copy of frx2any and it took several communications with the developer to get the product working. Several of the features in the sample program needed to be modified to enable the product to work correctly.

>1. I asked: Is there full documentation that exposes all functions - i.e. can I build my own app without using your f2atest routines.
>
>The developer replied: We don't have documentation for now. FRX2Any has only ONE function (SAVE with some parameters) and several properties and in demo you can find samples how to use it. Yes, you can build your own app without using F2ATest routines - see SAMPLE.PRG in \Sample PRG folder

>2. I asked What is your return policy if I can't get it to work for me?
>
>The developer replied: We don't practice Return Policy. Before purchase - try demo version. Take a note that the Full (Retail) version and the demo version are the same (demo version has only one limitation - it can process 39 records of main data table). If you will have trouble with implementation we'll help you
>
>I tested the sample program on one of my reports and got output within about 45 seconds of a spreadsheet and word document. I assumed the sample program was an adequate demo of the full product. I forked out the $250 to purchase it, and found that the full product had several serous drawbacks:
>
>3. I asked: When I spent $250 for this product, I was granted a license to distribute it with my products. There was no indicator in the documentation supplied to me that my name was going to appear in a wait window every time a user sent output to frx2any. On the screens of my customers a message appears "This product is licensed to Richard Carter". This is unprofessional in a distributed application.
>
>The developer responded: You could have supplied the company name instead of your name. You could always upgrade to the developer's version and get rid of the annoying Wait Window. If you know a better way to protect ourself against illegal re-distribution please tell us, we would be happy to change this annoying message.
>
>My comment:
>So for an additional $150 I can get the "added feature" of making this annoying message go away. Marvelous!!!! And how would my additional $150 protect the developer against illegal re-distribution?
>
>Finally, and perhaps the most serious problem with this product:
>
>4. I asked: A secondary problem has arisen that was not apparent on the demo model. It seems to take an inordinate amount of time to complete processing and sending output to a spreadsheet or word document. The demo version leads you to believe this product is speedy (it limits you to output of 39 records). But on a production report (I had one that had 20 pages of output) frx2Any took over an hour to output. Your computer is unusable during this time. This amount of time for a single report is unacceptable to my customers. Is there anything that can be done to speed it up.
>
>The developer responded: We are just using Bill Gates tools, the Word is the slowest, the only way to speed it up is to get a better computer...sorry about this.
>
>My comments:
>I have a Pentium IV 1.5G processor, 250GB of hard drive space, 756M memory. On this development machine the time still took over an hour for a 20 page report. I can't see how a better computer (there are few better than what I have) would make a lot of difference here. And I can't expect my customers to trash all their computers and purchase the latest and greatest to get this product to work. That is an unreasonable expectation.
>
>I emailed the developer asking for a return of my money because this product is unusable. The developer refused to return my money.
>
>IT IS MY RECOMMENDATION TO OTHER DEVELOPERS HERE ON THE UNIVERSAL THREAD THAT YOU AVOID THIS PRODUCT. THE DEVELOPER HAS FOUND A WAY OF DECEPTIVELY COLLECTING YOUR FEES AND NOT DELIVERING A QUALITY, WORKABLE PRODUCT. IT IS MY INTENTION WITH THIS REVIEW TO PREVENT OTHERS FROM LOOSING MONEY ON THIS SUBSTANDARD PRODUCT. THE FRX2WORD UTILITY HERE (AVAILABLE FREE HERE ON THE UNIVERSAL THREAD) WILL PROVIDE OUTPUT TO A WORD DOCUMENT AT A FASTER RATE THAN frx2Any.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
