VB was the first GUI RAD tool that I learned.
I soon learned to distrust the Jet engine driving the database connection. I purchased an ISAM backend for it and things really got rolling. But, I soon needed more DB power and moved to PowerBuilder. That Watcom DB was really solid and blazing fast. I played with Borland C++ for Windows 1.5. Visual C++ was as visual as emacs. Talk about false advertizing. Then I found VFP 2.6 for Windows. The front end wasn't too swift but the backend and the command line was a dream. Things got rapidly better with VFP3, VFP5 and VFP6. VFP6 is where we are at and probably where we will stay, running on W2K boxes until such time as we change platforms. I will probably be retired by then.
