Server explorer in VS.NET prof. have limited capabilities if SQL Server is also installed. On my machine, I have VS.NET prof. edition and MSDE installed and in such case VS.NET allows to create/modify tables, views, stored procedures and functions - it has allmost all what I need.
If you have VS.NET in editions from higher shelf you can always do that.
As regards as VFP, lack of such component like SQL server explorer is serious lack of base functionality IMHO. In VS6 was included SQL Server Development edition. In VFP7 box there is only MSDE. So owner of VFP7 must not only switch between different products (for example VFP - SQL Server Enterprise manager) but also have to buy or SQL Server Development Edition or Office/Access or VS.NET to make his job done.
Lack of such component like SQL server explorer inside VFP IDE could be partially eliminated by including SQL Server Development edition (not only MSDE) in VFP8 box. In such bundle VFP8 would be better database product (of course if VFP8 price could be the same or allmost the same as VFP7 price).
