>Hi all, I am evaluating an option to suggest the use of vfp as front end for corporate applications running over sqlserver and progress databases, will like to hear comments about the following considerations
>
>1. the best way to do it or the best framework
You have to decide which framework is best for you. Each has its strengths and weeknesses, and each takes a different approach to creating an application. There is not one "best" framework. There is lots of information on the wiki. You can start at
http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~FrameworkFeatureChart.
>2. the investment on vfp and the rumors of an uncertain future in Microsoft
VFP8 will be released early next year and features of VFP9 have been publically demonstrated. This is an old, old topic and not worth anymore discussion.
>3. connectivity and performance issues.
None that I know of. You can use either ODBC or ADO to connect to the data.
>4. web enabling in the near future.
If you need to do this, look at a framework that can place all the business and data access routines in a COM DLL that can be accessed from the web server. The specific design methodologies you use will also greatly affect this.
