You could fake a mult-select. Add a logical field to your cursor. Add a Check box column to your grid. Click check boxes for selected records and then iterate your cursor for true in the logic field.

ListViews are cool. They have multiselect and smooth scroll (not the snap to that grids have) and you have sorts available for all columns without adding indexes!
