>When you said I could use SO for dbase I was surprised. So last night I got SO office to open a dbase file from my accounting system. At first SO could not open the file but I then converted the file from VFP 7 to foxplus and it opened with out trouble. Then I copied the file from wins to the linux and I had trouble again. In fact SO did not find the file. Turns out that SO is case sensitive. I change the DBF to dbf and all worked.

After three days I still can not find an answer to my question on postgres 7.2 and Kylix 2 working. I've read 100's of news questions using google (remember you provided me that info) and I can't find anything.

There is a 63 page PDF document at the Sun site that explains how to add databases to SO/OO in the WinXX environment.
http://docs.sun.com/db/doc/817-0364n.pdfAt
http://www.mysql.com/documentation web site is a PDF for the Linux platform describing the same thing but using MySQL as the model. (it redirects to
http://www.mysql.com/doc/OOoMySQL.PDF)
You can follow the same method for PostgreSQL. When you installed PostgreSQL it sets up the PostgreSQL odbc connection in /etc/odbcinst.ini and /etc/odbc.ini (each user may have to have their own odbc.ini).
My /etc/odbc.ini looks like:
[PostgreSQL]
Description = ODBC for PostgreSQL
Driver = /usr/lib/libodbcpsql.so
Setup = /usr/lib/libodbcpsqlS.so
FileUsage = 1
[MySQL]
Description = ODBC Driver for MySQL
Driver = /usr/lib/libmyodbc.so
Setup = /usr/lib/libodbcmyS.so
FileUsage = 1
CPTimeout =
CPReuse =
Without the odbc.ini setup by unixODBC when SO/OO attempts to open them up it will use /usr/lib/libodbc.so and that library may be the wrong one or SO/OO may see it as corrupted.
Good luck!
