>My workstation, when I am in MSN chat keeps trying to access the a: drive whenever a whisper message pops up. I don't normally have anything in a:\ so it just makes the annoying sound and no message ever pops up. I scanned my registry for a:\ and found nothing. I went into my system properties and check the environment variables and nothing as a:\ in it. I am using Windows XP Pro. Anybody have any clues.

Somehow, the A: got into your default search path; you need to clean that up in either a PATH statement or one of several places in the registry.
