I agree here. It helps to keep, well, not the entire message, but the part that is relevant for the question.
Even when you have much faster access to each message (typical for NNTP, where you keep the messages for several days on your computer), it is useful to know which part of a long message somebody is answering.
Autoquote should fix that.
