It can be - you instance the SDT objects, and when an error occurs, you invoke the Update or Repair methods as needed to resolve the error. If you need to update the client site, generate new metadata, send it to them and have your update trigger the SDT update mechanism. I use this to support a couple apps with literally thousands of users and several hundred distinct sites, with a wide range of file handling variation.
