Where did your Dad's family come from?

Since I brought up the subject, the Empies came from the Rhine valley some time after the Thirty Years War. Empie is a corruption of some German name, possibly Omichen.

All my ancestors would have fought on the Union side if at all. We don't have any memorabilia that I know of.
