>We have about 80 servers running NT 4.0 and the company has been talking about going to Win 2000 "sometime in the future"! Tests indicate that 86% of our apps (created with Visual Studio 6.0) will not run on the XP operating system. We build cars and trucks for Toyota and General Motors and one minute of down time costs $32,000. Everything is dependent upon computers and programs we provide.

I'm surprised by this, for two reasons:

- That you were able to build mission-critical apps in VS6 that run on NT but won't on XP - especially such a high percentage. Can you provide details of the nature of the failures?

- Yours sounds like a high-profile operation (NUMMI?). MS likes high-profile "wins" - imagine ad copy trumpeting "NUMMI depends on XP". They wouldn't want word of this getting around. I'd have thought they might offer you an OS specialist to resolve these issues (if they haven't already!)
