While the system tables do contain a wealth of information, Microsoft does not recommend directly reading from them. Microsoft has warned that it might change the structure of the system tables at any release.

You would be better working from the various system stored procedures, functions, and information_schema views. All of which will be maintained by MS regardless of the changes to the system tables.
