Many of us wish some sort of GUI/OOP xBase solution was available for unix. There are some tentative offers if you google around enough.

But to your question - You can connect a VFP windows desktop to a UNIX/SQL backend. The ODBC will help you there. Downside - you loose the xBase and xBase record iteration. There have been lots of threads hoping for a VFP Unix tool - we're still waiting.

I've saw one UNIX shop that had 400 users hooked to a FoxBase app. The server was beat up old PI - but it worked great 24/7.
