I can set the permission flags from explorer without issue. As far as setting the permissions from VFP I'm not to sure. My guess is it would be the same as with any windows file. But I don't know how to set the permissions from windows either. Check out the windows API.

Thanks for the response. The reason I am asking is because my program uses the API to test the read/write flag and then set it accordingly. On the one location using a LInux file server it is not changing the flag and when the user does it from windows explorer the file read status change does not "stick".

Question: When you set the permission flag, did you exit from explorer and go back in to see if the status change remained in effect? ... or set a file to read-only and test that it really was read-only?
