Yes I agree. When the term "World Series" was first used in the United States, it was at a time when our country was interested in itself and not the world. Some say "we kept our heads in the sand", until the Second World War. If we take todays value systems and equate them to the term "World Series", we seem to be saying "Only the United States counts"! I do not think that is the message as it is really a term that has been used in a different context for over 100 years.

How many countries play baseball? Not too many. There was a time when American teams played Cuba, where baseball is very popular. We still have a few games with Japan but nothing like the "World Series".

Soccer has the World Cup. In this day and age baseball should have something similar with international teams. We should go back to the term "The Championship of the United States". It seems better to me and states what it really is. With Canadian teams as part of the professional baseball structure "North American Championship" may be a better term. In that case - lets get Mexico to be part of this event! :)
