>>Am I reading this right in that these victims have to return to N Korea in a couple of weeks, and that their children had to remain in N Korea to assure their return? This is outrageous. I hope the Japanese gov't puts the screws to these cretins.

>Their spouses and children remained in North Korea, apparently awaiting passports. In reality, the families appear to be hostages.
As is typical of "media stories" we get some information and in fact we may never hear anything else about any of this. Nothing unusual about that.
There are many issues between Japan and Korea (south and north) that are not resolved, which began with the occupation of Korea in 1910 by Japan, through the end of World War II. It is interesting to hear that Japan is concerned for 13 of its citizens and still does not discuss or admit to the millions killed by Japanese throughout Asia through the period of 1945.
With no Peace Treaty signed to end the "police action" begun in June of 1950, anything is possible when it comes to north Korea. Will President Bush invade north Korea after Iraq?
