In my view the report specification carries too much information about printers. What you call normal is what I often fight because the printer on my development system is usually different than on a production system.

However, I have had success in a case like yours by opening the report on the production workstation and specifying the target printer. I am not certain how this will work with multiple workstations using a shared printer. I would believe it will be OK if it is a network printer and all workstations refer to it with the same name, etc.
