Hi Kevin,
Open dialogs were standardized into Windows dialogs for Windows 2000 and higher in VFP8. And you are right, the help topic content is confusing; the change is inclusive of Win2K.
As to previewing, simply click on the View Menu button and choose "Thumbnails". There's your preview capability and this selection will stay this way since it's tied into the Windows Folder Options (see the Control Panel) for displaying files.
