Jerry;

Just to "feel better", Sun Microsystems is laying off 4000+, 11% of the work force. Why not just close down?

The news media never agrees with itself. Last night they said, "No company lays off at the end of the year". Now that is known to be not true. You lay off just before Christmas. That is from personal experience from me and many of my friends - some of whom have been out of work for almost two years. One friend got laid off December 24, at 11PM. His crew stayed to launch a new product and all went well. Then the president said - "bye" do not come back - have a good one".

I think HP still has a few warm bodies left for layoff in my area. The HP CEO said "industry and workers have to donate food to Second Harvest Food Bank, because there are many out of work and in need"! Perhaps that is her way to anounce more layoff's in Silicon Valley for HP will occur shortly.

Did you know that some HP divisions have closed their QC departments? They ship from manufacturing (printers and scanners for example) and if it does not work - bring it back and try again. Why test anything? Who cares?

Tom
