It is money. It is very hard to convince top-management to spend a few dimes on software. Well, it is not exactly dimes, but we do have some specialized machines for making shoe, some of which are probably worth tens of thousands of dollars. If not more. So allow me to grumble a little when they don't want to spend a few hundred dollars on some needed software. VSS can be replaced by other products, but I have had other cases where the required software can't be easily replaced. E.g.: upgrade from VFP 6 to VFP 7.
Otherwise, when I worked with VSS, I was quite content with it.
Hilmar.
