Hi David,

>Hi Rex,

>Yep, the bugs in VFP's InstallShield have crossed into the completely unacceptable category. An installation system has 2 main functions which are: Install and Uninstall. The uninstall feature does not work. In this regard, 50 percent of VFP's InstallShield does not function correctly. The uninstall failure isn't just a nuisance type bug, but a highly visible and potentially embarassing bug for developers.

>Thank you for the information on Inno. I'm definitely going to check into Inno. I've seen a few comments about the product, and they all have been favorable. I've also been considering playing around with the old Visual Studio Installer.

I has personally used Inno on all of the above platforms, as well as Win 95. The help files with Inno as extremely good and if an old CICS/COBOL/DB2 mainframe analyst such as myself can work it out, anyone can. Its all scripted which makes it easy to debug. If you like, I can send you a copy of my install script to give you an idea what is involved. I have been using Inno to compile my app on an XP Home Version platform since late last year. Inno is very stable.

>>Hi Dave,

>>I'd like to add my two bob's worth. I upgraded to VFP7 last year and immediately found ISE totally unacceptable to ISD's, from a cost and development effort perspective, let alone the no upgrade 'feature' which as you can see can be purchased at a price!!
>>
>>Why not do as I did, and go Inno. I got this freeware/shareware installation software from the web. It cost me nothing, but I was so immpressed I sent the author the $US10.00 shareware cost. The best $US10.00 I ever spent.
>>
>>With Inno Setup, I can do everything I need, Start Menu, Uninstall, Desktop Icons - even to setting registry items and running post-install exe's (this crashed on Win2K & XP with VFP v5 Setup Wizard). I know it's not Windows Installer but it certainly works for me. By the way, I compile my Install files in about 10 seconds on a 1.5ghtz AMD, whereas ISE took over two minutes for the same compile. Now I read in John's message that is has bugs!!
