I do not know of any way to do this with getfile(). I just tested with a timer, but stuffing the keyboard does not work with this dialogue box since it is not a VFP form. YOu may have to develop your own GETFILE function so it can be shutdown if the user does not select a file within a certain time limit.

You can distribute the VFP 7 FILER tool [may have been available in earlier versions as well] in your compiled apps. This tool is a VFP form so it can be automatically shutdown.
