Check out the statistics. College grads earn a lot more over a lifetime than high school grads. While earning money isn't the sole goal, it's nice to earn enough that you don't have to worry about paying your bills.

As for non-economic arguments, the biggest is that college is a place to get an education, it's not just trade school. There are so many things you can study in college just because you find them interesting; later in life, that's harder to manage.
