Absolutely true. Some of the discussions become incredibly extraneous. Sometimes though, they really do belong where they are. If I had to guess, I'd say that your point about moving to a new thread is probably right more often than not.

Ideas can still be exchanged about possible better (more efficient) ways to achieve the result, or flaws that might have been spotted by someone else.
