Tracy;

Do not sell sociology and psychology short. They are termed “the unproven sciences”, as there is no scientific proof of any of the dictates they possess being true or false. I took all lower and upper division sociology and psychology classes that were offered. After all that effort I must say what is important is not the various abstract concepts each has. Rather the value of these two subjects in higher education is being conversant with the “terms and meanings”.

You see, the theories change but the terms do not. The “have’s and have not’s”, and the “manic depressives” are only terms which relate to a theory. That theory changes with time and becomes the “new school of thought”. Just pop another Prozac ™ and life is good.

By the way one of my psychology teachers asked the class, “Do you know the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist? A psychiatrist can prescribe drugs”!

Where would we be without the “bleeding hearts”? Sociology is an important discipline. It is responsible for employing many people. The good thing is these same persons are not loose on the street!

Just one of my theories which defines the term “Agent of Socialization” = a coffee cup. Try holding a coffee cup (with some coffee inside) while walking up to a stranger. You will find the person is more at ease seeing you than if your hands were free. I have seen this work indoors and outdoors.

I have a list of these I created, which made my professor laugh. Good thing she had a great sense of humor!

>And socialogy and psychology. After taking numerous courses in both, I have come to the understanding that mankind knows absolutely nothing about mankind. :o) Nothing like testing on stuff no one is sure about-how can you get it wrong??? :o) Hence you mostly test on what 'so and so' thinks or thought.

>>I think philosophy would be a better choice for a completly pointless degree. Think how much better you can argue with everyone if you have the knowledge of years of pointless arguments and proofs to draw from.......<s>
