That indicates a problem: you should only return to the Command Window after execution of your program finishes completely.
READ EVENTS is supposed to stop your program at the specified place until you decided it is time to quit (with CLEAR EVENTS).
Debug to see whether your READ EVENTS is ever reached. I suspect it is either not executed, or CLEAR EVENTS is given at the wrong time.
