I havn't done anything with adding menu options since way back. At that time the menu could be built using a text editor. I can't remember what the window system was back then, but I'm sure everything has changed since then. Sorry I don't have any experience in this area to share. I usually create a launcher whenever I need a fast way to access an app.

By the way, did you install mplayer? It handles mp3 audio beautifully. It a little bit of a pain to install, but worth it in my opionion. Once I had it going, I copied some of my favorites over to Linux and Played them.
