Hard to say. I don't get the NYT (not enough time for more than one daily paper).

Science News tends to have articles that are based on stuff in scientific journals. In general, they do reference where the original appeared, so you can follow up with more depth elsewhere.

One of my favorites parts of Science News, oddly enough, is the ads. There tend to be a lot of ads for science-related books. Reading about them fascinates me.
