>I play classical, blues, jazz and flamenco. Within flamenco we use Major, minor, harmonic minor, and phrygian (Greek) or dorian (Church)modes.
I like the Phrygian, very spanish sounding. Is Phyrgian greek different from phyrgian church? Minor second, but still a major 5th (on the piano it would be E to E' with no majors and minors).
You said there are eight modes, though seven are usually taught. What is the eigth? How can there be eight modes is there are only seven unique tones within a major scale (as you can see my understanding of modes is probably more mathematical than musical!).
