Actually, I would rather force the user to select a filename - but only if they really want to save it. What I really wanted to avoid is that "Save" will overwrite a Temp file - the user thinks the file is saved, but the temp file is deleted eventually! So, I think your first idea is what I need: copy and paste to a new spreadsheet (without saving - let the user take care of that). Seems to be the easiest way to create the "nameless" spreadsheet I was thinking about.

The point is, the user will quite often see the Excel "report" on screen, without wanting to save. Excel is just an alternative "report" format in my system. It should be up to the user to decide whether to save or not - and perhaps the user will only save one out of ten reports.
